XDefiant

Microtransactions in XDefiant are summarized as...

The game is free-to-play, and with that, you can expect all of the modern monetization qualms.

Cosmetics are purchased via a daily rotating store with weapon and character skins, and player cards. These cannot be purchased with money directly; instead, they are purchased by first purchasing XCoins. These coins are priced similarly to other popular games, with 1000 coins equaling roughly 10 USD. This shop also contains bundles, some of which are available for a very short amount of time. These feature unique cosmetics that cannot be purchased separately and cost a large number of XCoins.

The game is currently in its "Preseason," which means very little, but it means the battle pass is more limited compared to what they might be offering in the future. As a result, it doesn't contain as many items, but it's also a little cheaper. There are two premium versions of the battle pass, with the second including a bunch of "tier skips" to level up your battle pass faster. It also contains an extra character skin. Battle pass XP is earned through regular play as well as challenges. The XP from regular play is fairly slow; the bulk of your XP will come from challenges, but the challenges are on a daily rotation.

Not all purchases are cosmetic only. The game features "factions," which are sets of playable characters. These can be earned through a time-consuming grind by simply playing the game. If you wish to unlock a faction sooner, you can instead spend 1000 XCoins to unlock them instantly. Or you can spend 2500 XCoins to unlock them as well as a bunch of cosmetics. Currently, there is only one purchasable faction available, but there will be four new ones released within the first year.

The game also features purchasable special edition bundles. These can be purchased with money directly. There are three bundles:

- Founder's Pack, costing roughly 20 USD. This contains cosmetics as well as XP boosts and XCoins.
- Founder's Pack Elite, costing roughly 40 USD. This contains all of the previous pack, but with more XCoins and more XP Boosters, as well as the Preseason Premium Battle Pass.
- Founder's Pack Ultimate, costing roughly 70 USD. This contains all of the previously mentioned content, plus extras, as well as a number of playable characters via a season pass. These are not available from the start.

All of these bundles are available for a limited time only. Another bundle is available outside of the game through the Ubisoft Store, featuring a character and weapon skin.

While the developers have stated the game features no pay-to-win elements, it can be argued that factions are indeed pay-to-win, as the developers are incentivized to lock the stronger factions behind paywalls to encourage you to purchase them. Equally, it can be argued that XP boosts are pay-to-win, as these accelerate the rate at which you unlock attachments that make your weapons stronger, as well as new weapons entirely. Of course, you can unlock these without purchases, but players who purchase the boosts will unlock them quicker and thus have an advantage over you.
