This game features just about ever type of monetisation and isn't even free to play. Of course it's an MMO, which require a high amount of upkeep, but it also features an almost required subscription fee if you're a more hardcore player. The vast amount cosmetics and DLC make the subscription fee look out of place.
Purchasing the base game without any further microtransactions will put you at a sizeable disadvantage to those who have put in a good chunk of money. Not necessarily in player power, but very much so in convenience. For example; your inventory slots will be limited unless you pay. The optional subscription will also give you sped up experience gain with various professions.
There's various more purchases you can make to speed up your experience gain in a lot of different areas.
All in all the game is expensive and if you're not willing to pay you'll be inconvenienced for it.
