Deep Rock Galactic often features updates that add a large amount of content. These come with the original purchase and no extra purchases are required at all.
Most cosmetic content can be earned completely for free and are part of regular game progression. There are a few skin packs available for real money. These skins cannot be earned through other means.
They have recently added a Battle Pass like progression system that allows you to earn cosmetics. This Battle Pass is completely free. Progression is rather slow but the Battle Pass is available for a couple of months. When the Battle Pass expires the cosmetics will be available through other means, exactly how has not yet been disclosed.
